This is a picture of Anne Frank House where 12 year old Anne and her family and four other people of Jewish heritage hid in the ‘secret annex’ from the Nazis for 2 years.
Anne and all the people in hiding were discovered by the Nazi’s in 1944 and sent to concentration camps. The only person who survived the camps was Anne’s father, Otto Frank. He published her diary and opened the house to the public in the hope that “readers of the diary would become aware of the dangers of discrimination, racism, and hatred of Jews.”
Visiting the house was a powerful experience.
I reread Anne’s diary before our trip. She was wise way beyond her years and her message is important today.
“In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.”
Anne Frank
