As you can read in the blogs, the trip has been going extremely well. So far India has exceeded any expectations I might have had.
Before coming here I knew a little about the food since we enjoy it regularly at home. I’ve learned so much about the culture, the history and religions in this country. Our trip up north took us from Hindu communities like Mandi to Buddhist temples in Dharamshala to the Sikh shrine of The Golden Temple in Amritsar.
We are back in Delhi, about to head south to the Taj Mahal. We had things to do here but have been stopped in our tracks with the flu. I’m guessing a strain our vaccine didn’t cover. So we’ve been in bed with a fever and cough for three days!
We did bring analgesics and cough drops but went to a small chemist shop yesterday to restock. Unlike at home, drugs here are sold in the blister pack, not in boxes, and are cheap! These cough drops, cough syrup and analgesics were $2.00 Canadian.

Before we left we took all the vaccines offered to us by the travel clinic, 5 in all in addition to what we already had. I’m so glad we did! I’d be worrying this fever was Japanese Encephalitis or Chickengunya – two of the vaccines we received.
We’ve been careful to not drink the water or eat street food so we haven’t gotten “Delhi Belly”. We use bug spray daily as most diseases are carried by mosquitos.
Now that the fever has broken and we’re getting our appetites back I’m sure it is just the flu. We hear our cough everywhere. Our auto rickshaw driver was spitting at every stop and the concierge at the hotel smiled at us, saying you’ve got the India flu!
So there’s been nothing much to see but our hotel room these past few days but tomorrow as we drive to Jaipur I’ll post some pictures.

So don’t worry we’ll survive. And I’m not ready to be an angel! 🤣
