Stepping off the edge

Owlmother's adventures

Picking up where I left off… kinda

I started a blog called Stepping off the Edge when I left my comfortable middle class and middle age life in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and headed to Adelaide, Australia to return to school in 2012.

For 8 years I blogged about events in my life…family weddings, birth of grandkids, travel. I no longer own the email address associated with that blog so couldn’t continue, hence starting over in this space.

So I picked up where I left off with our trip in fall 2024 to Europe and will continue with India and the Maldives .

Day 20 – The Maldives

We’ve slowed our pace significantly on our little Island of Dhiffushi in the Maldives.

We enjoy the buffet breakfast with lots of fresh fruit. We paddle in the shallow ocean walking through sea grass and coral. We lie on the beach and order mocktails from the bar.

The Maldives are predominantly Muslim so the island is dry. There is beef, which we haven’t seen for weeks!

The weather is warm, about 35C with 87% humidity. A breeze does come up in the evening cooling things down a little.

The island is tiny! It measures a small 0.95 kilometres in length and 0.2 kilometres in width!

This well maintained soccer field takes up about 25% of the island! They were fogging it for mosquitos last night but no one played on it!

Tomorrow’s plan…more of the same!
