We booked into the same hotel as last time, Playa Azul. It’s off the beaten track, relatively small and with friendly and helpful staff who have worked here a long time.

It used to be a golf hotel. When you stayed here golf games were included so it was pricey. The golf course closed 5 years ago, a sign of the economy and changing demographics.
The weather has been warm and windy. We haven’t been able to go diving yet. We’ve spent our time walking the beaches, swimming in the ocean, watching the kite surfers, pelicans and other birds and reading and relaxing.

Since the hotel is at the north end of the island we rented a car. This way we’re not dependent on taxis and we can try local restaurants, not the hotel or tourist restaurants. It’s paid off, the food has been delicious!
