We visited 5 castles around Scotland so it was only fitting that we stay in one. Dalmunzie Castle, in the Spittal of Glenshee (yes really) was originally built in the 1700’s. The current building was constructed in the early 20th century and has been run as a hotel on and off throughout the years.

It is surrounded by rolling hills, fields full of sheep and a rustic 9 hole golf course.
Each room had a name (no number) and ours was in honour of the original owner, Winton.

The rooms and hallways were authentically decorated to the period.

The food was delicious right down to the breakfast options. Keith had porridge with whiskey (his only whiskey tasting) and soft brown sugar and I had the porridge with the fruit compote. The portions were huge.

We trekked near the castle in the beautiful hills of Cairngorms National Park which is in the centre of Scotland. The mists hung in the air in the morning creating beautiful views.
